The Essentials: Laundry, Parking, Entrance, and Pets
A handful of quick answers that decide whether someone can actually live in your home for a few months. Here is what each one means.
The itsFurnished Team·
The essentials screen is a short list of facts that decide whether a guest can live in your home for three months. They are also questions you would otherwise answer one at a time in Messages, and guests filter search by many of them.
Washer and dryer
One question for each machine: in the unit, elsewhere on the property, or none. Answer each on its own. A washer in the unit with a shared dryer down the hall is a real answer.
For a monthly stay, a washer and dryer in the unit is one of the strongest things a listing can offer.
Parking
On the property, on the street, or none. Whether it costs extra is asked on the utilities and fees screen.
Entry
A private entrance, where guests come and go through their own door, or a shared one, like a lobby, hallway, or front door.
Bathroom
Only asked for a private room: is the bathroom private or shared? A shared bathroom is not a dealbreaker for everyone, but finding out after moving in always is.
Pets
Allowed or not. If you allow pets, you can add a pet deposit on the utilities and fees screen. Pet owners have fewer options and often stay longer, so it is worth considering.
Smoking
Allowed or not. Saying it here means you do not have the conversation twice.
Where your kitchen goes
Not here. You describe your kitchen on the amenities screen by checking the appliances it has.

Common questions
- Where do I describe my kitchen?
- On the amenities screen. Check each appliance your kitchen has, such as a stovetop, an oven, and a full-size fridge.
- How do I say whether parking is free or paid?
- The essentials screen only asks where parking is. If it costs extra, add the monthly charge on the utilities and fees screen.
- Why am I being asked about the bathroom?
- That question only appears for a private room, where whether the bathroom is shared is one of the first things a long-stay guest wants to know.
- Should I allow pets?
- That is your call. Pet owners have fewer options and often stay longer, and you can add a pet deposit on the utilities and fees screen.
- Do I have to answer every question?
- Laundry, parking, entry, and pets need an answer before you can publish, and so does the bathroom for a private room.
- Can I change these answers after publishing?
- Yes. You can edit them from your listing at any time.
